Year 2000 Report

Burma Lifeline had a very successful first year of operation. We raised and sent over US$35,000 to Southeast Asia to help Refugees from Burma. Every penny raised was sent to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and the NGOs accounted for every penny through spending reports sent back to Burma Lifeline.

In 2000, the funds were spent on

• Food, rice, and oil
• Training (teachers, weavers, medical assistants)
• Building of shelters, schools, clinics (provide thatch, wire, nails, knives)
• School supplies, materials, copies of books
• Salaries for teachers and instructors
• Clinic supplies (Dr. Cynthia's clinic) for treatment of respiratory infections, anaemia, diarrhea, malaria, amputations, and childbirth
• Medicines (quinine, tetracycline, and other antibiotics, vitamins, etc)
• Individual patients' health care in Thai hospitals (no free treatments available)
• Sending medical backpack workers into Burma
• Orphanages
• Printing of brochures on AIDS prevention, Women's Organizations, etc.
• Office and house rents

Burma Lifeline took in donations at book talks by Inge Sargent, at information tables set up at conferences and other events, and through direct fund raising efforts. Burma Lifeline also received a few, larger gifts from foundations.

In 2000, all of Burma Lifeline's expenses were covered by either the Board of Directors or through book, T-shirt and button sales at events. 100% of donated funds and some of the sales revenue were sent to help refugees. Burma Lifeline continues to be committed to the policy that 100% of all donations received will be sent to help refugees from Burma in Southeast Asia.
