The following letter to the editor appeared in the Boulder Daily Camera on May 13, 2002.
Thank you for you extensive coverage of the freeing of Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma (Myanmar) by the military government (News, May7). We welcome her release from house arrest and are cautiously optimistic. However, she has been released before (July 1995) only to be arrested again when she tried to travel outside Rangoon to meet with her political colleagues.
Let's hope for the best! I urge your readers to continue checking apparel labels and not buy anything produced in Myanmar. Sanctions have apparently brought us this far. We must continue to help Aung San Suu Kyi and Burma on its way to democracy.
